“I Believe there are Five Major Issues for Our District and Our Island…”
1. Prioritizing the City’s budget
We need to make sure that our Budget reflects the needs of our communities. Essential City services such as police, fire and emergency medical services must have the resources they need to respond to any and all situations that threaten the health, safety and welfare of our communities on Oahu. If it means that some non- essential projects may have to be delayed, then we need to delay them! We need to be sensible as it is our keiki who will be left holding the bag.
2. Economic Development and Diversity
We need to constantly seek job opportunities and employers to help diversify our community.
Relying solely on tourism generated dollars has divided us. By using guidelines established in the respective Central Oahu, North Shore and Koolauloa Sustainable Communities Plans, I believe that we can strike a balance between creating jobs for our people and keeping the country, country. We also need to make sure that we have the needed infrastructure to support our agricultural based businesses, including the lands necessary for alternate energy projects – both start-ups and those that help traditional developers move toward establishing their own alternate energy portfolios.
3. Developing a Strategy for Sustainable Growth
There is always the need for growth and progress; however, we have a responsibility to plan the future of our communities wisely so that the generations to follow are given a quality of life that is as good, or better, than ours. We must carefully examine issues such as traffic, schools, water, sewer and other infrastructure capacity as we allow new developments. We must also ensure that required City services such as stream maintenance and parks are at proper levels to support these projects. That is why I support the development of the “Second City”, the UH West Oahu campus, and the City’s mass transit system because it helps balance the growth of our communities by focusing it where there already is infrastructure necessary to support growth.
4. Revitalizing Our Existing Communities
I believe it is extremely important that we work towards leveraging our limited county resources with federal funds to revitalize our neighborhoods, spur economic development, improve public infrastructure and provide for the recreational and social needs of our keiki and kupuna. Through the establishment of county and federal Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA) designations, like we have in Wahiawa, additional federal dollars can be obtained to reinvest in our communities in a manner that also preserves their historical heritages and cultural diversities.
5. Committed to Serve
I believe public service is a privilege that should not be taken for granted. Caring about others should be our greatest priority. That is why, if elected, I pledge to always put you and your loved ones first. Our communities deserve no less.
“With your support, I would be honored to be your Councilman.”
